Integrations, automation and extensions

Business systems rarely stand alone. We design, build, test and monitor the connections between your ERP and everything around it, automate the manual steps in between, and extend the platform where the standard genuinely falls short.

The problem we solve

Manual re-keying is an integration that never got built

Orders arrive from a web shop and are typed into the ERP. Shipment confirmations go back by email. Approvals happen in a chat thread and are recorded later, if at all. Each of these gaps costs time, introduces errors and makes reporting unreliable.

The integrations that do exist are often fragile: built years ago, undocumented, with no monitoring, so the first sign of failure is a customer complaint. The right approach is a short assessment of every interface and manual handoff, then a prioritised plan that uses standard connectors and platform features before custom code.

  • Web shop, marketplace or EDI orders entered manually or via unreliable imports
  • Warehouse, transport or production systems out of sync with the ERP
  • Approval and onboarding processes run by email with no audit trail
  • Integrations that fail silently, with nobody alerted
  • Customisations inside the ERP that could have been Power Automate flows or extensions

Who this is for

  • Logistics, wholesale and e-commerce businesses connecting ERP with web shops, marketplaces, carriers and EDI partners
  • Manufacturers integrating planning, shop-floor and quality systems with Business Central or F&SCM
  • Organisations adopting Power Platform and Dataverse for workflow automation and small business apps
  • IT teams that need existing integrations documented, monitored and made supportable

What the service covers

Integration work covers the Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse), Azure integration services, REST and OData APIs, file and EDI-based interfaces and, for Business Central, AL extensions built to Microsoft's app guidelines. For SAP Business One we use the Service Layer and DI API.

Every integration is treated as a product with an owner: documented data mappings, error handling, retry behaviour, monitoring and alerting, and a test set that can be re-run after each ERP update. That is what makes the difference between an integration that works on go-live day and one that still works in three years.

Activities within the service

  • Integration assessment: inventory of interfaces, manual handoffs, risks and a prioritised plan
  • Power Platform, Dataverse, API and application integrations
  • Workflow and process automation with Power Automate and Power Apps where supported
  • Business Central AL extensions and per-tenant customisations built to upgrade-safe standards
  • EDI, file and web shop connectors; carrier and warehouse system interfaces
  • Integration testing, monitoring, alerting and documentation
  • Custom application components (web, mobile, portals) where they extend the business systems we support

Platforms covered

  • Power Automate
  • Power Apps
  • Dataverse
  • Azure Logic Apps and Functions
  • REST and OData APIs
  • EDI and file-based interfaces
  • AL extensions for Business Central

Common use cases

Web shop to Business Central order flow

Orders, customers, stock levels, prices and shipment statuses exchanged automatically, with exceptions routed to a queue that a person reviews rather than silently failing.

EDI with retail and logistics partners

Orders, despatch advices and invoices exchanged with large customers and carriers through an EDI provider, mapped to ERP documents and monitored.

Purchase approvals in Power Automate

Approval workflows with thresholds, delegation and an audit trail, triggered from the ERP and completed from Teams or email.

Field and warehouse apps in Power Apps

Simple mobile apps for stock counts, returns or inspections writing to Dataverse or directly to Business Central through supported APIs.

Making a legacy integration supportable

An undocumented interface reverse-engineered, documented, wrapped with monitoring and error handling, and placed under support until it can be replaced.

Practical deliverables

  • Integration inventory and assessment with risk ratings and a prioritised roadmap
  • Interface specifications with data mappings, error handling and ownership
  • Built integrations, flows, apps and extensions with source control
  • Automated or scripted test sets and evidence
  • Monitoring and alerting configured, with a runbook for operations
  • Technical and user documentation and handover

What you can expect

  • Fewer manual steps and re-keying errors
  • Interfaces that fail visibly and recover predictably
  • Automation that leaves an audit trail
  • Extensions that survive ERP updates

How an engagement runs

  1. Assess

Every interface and manual handoff listed, with volumes, failure history and business impact.

  2. Design

Patterns chosen per interface: standard connector, Power Platform, API integration or extension, with security and error handling defined.

  3. Build and test

Delivered in iterations with test data, negative tests and performance checks.

  4. Operate

Monitoring, alerting and documentation in place; the integration moves under support with a named owner.

Read more about how we deliver

Scope and delivery boundaries

  • We build to the APIs and connectors the vendors support; integrations that require unsupported database writes are declined and an alternative proposed
  • Third-party systems need to provide a usable interface or export; where they do not, we say so early
  • Large bespoke application development is scoped as a separate project with its own estimate; we focus on components that extend the business systems we support
  • Licensing for Power Platform premium connectors or Dataverse is advised on in advance

Frequently asked questions

Should we use Power Automate or a custom integration?

Power Automate suits event-driven workflows, approvals and moderate volumes. High-volume, transactional or latency-sensitive interfaces are usually better served by API integrations or Azure services. The assessment recommends a pattern per interface rather than a single tool for everything.

Can you document and support integrations we did not build?

Yes. Taking over legacy integrations is common. We reverse-engineer and document them, add monitoring and error handling where possible, and advise on replacement when maintenance costs more than a rebuild.

Will extensions break when Microsoft updates Business Central?

Extensions built to the AL guidelines and tested against preview releases rarely do. Part of our support arrangement is regression-testing extensions before each release wave is applied.

Do you integrate SAP Business One?

Yes, through the Service Layer and DI API, for web shops, warehouse systems, reporting and Power Platform scenarios.

How do you handle security in integrations?

With service accounts or app registrations with least-privilege permissions, secrets stored in a key vault or secure configuration rather than code, encrypted transport, and logging that records what was exchanged without storing sensitive payloads longer than needed.
